Wildflower walk reveals hidden beauties

On Thursday 18 June local botanist Tricia Moxey led her ever-popular midsummer wildflower walk around the exchange lands, one of the richest areas for plants in our area.

IMG_4788The large group of 33 people was taken on a circular route around the area centred on the old sewage works site south east of Wanstead Park. Much disturbed by human activity over the years, and with large expanses of made-up ground, which adds to the potential for ecological diversity, the area is now largely left to its own devices. Encompassing areas of naturally regenerated woodland, scrub, grassland, as well as a pleasant stretch of the River Roding, the flora is dominated by characteristic native species, but includes exotic interlopers and garden escapees.IMG_4802IMG_4808IMG_4812IMG_4824IMG_4827IMG_4829IMG_4830IMG_4835

This event was organised by the Wren Conservation and Wildlife Group and was part of the 2015 Wanstead Park Festival.
