OPENING UP THE GROTTO

In recent years the low water levels in the Ornamental Water have allowed vegetation to become established on the lake bed.

Most concerning, this has included woody plants, mostly willows, which were starting to form a screen in front of the Grotto.

On Tuesday (26 January 2021) volunteers from the Wren Wildlife and Conservation Group, with help from Epping Forest staff, had a very successful practical work session to remove the young trees.

The work was carried out in conformity with social distancing requirements.

In a few weeks time, work is due to start on reconstructing the landing stage of The Grotto. Now park visitors on the east back will actually be able to see it!
