Equalities Statement

Our commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion

The Friends of Wanstead Parkland’s mission is our belief that everyone has a right to access and benefit from this wonderful public open space which can be experienced and enjoyed by all. This goes hand in hand with the creation of a diverse organisation that reflects the communities that we serve. The differences of thought, skills, ideas and experience brought by a diverse team of volunteers will be invaluable in tackling the future challenges faced by natural world in the local area.

The volunteer team at the helm of the Friends of Wanstead Parklands is committed to promoting equality of opportunity, tackling discrimination and welcoming and valuing the diversity of the communities we serve. We regularly promote community or cultural events, networking and engagement opportunities for our members and visitors to the area.

We will aim to ensure that no person receives less favourable treatment from the organisation including on the grounds of race, colour, gender identity, marital status, religion, disability, age, political beliefs or sexual orientation.
We are committed to equal opportunities, and welcome the contribution that a diverse community can offer, and to meet these aims we will:

  • not tolerate harassment or intimidation of any kind and will respond to all reports of harassment/intimidation
  • seek to avoid, or to remove, any barriers to participation in, or enjoyment of, our activities
  • encourage all individuals to apply to volunteer with us
  • be committed to ensuring that equality of opportunity underpins all our procedures, policies and work practises.

This policy will be reviewed every two years or when necessary to take account of changes in the law.
