Children celebrate the New Year – Roman-style!

At the Temple open weekend (5 and 6 January 2019), local children celebrated the New Year with a Roman themed event – after all, the month of January is named after the Roman god Janus, who presided over gateways, transitions, beginnings and endings. He is usually depicted as having two faces, since he looks both to the future and to the past.

Inspired by the lost Roman remains in Wanstead Park, the children created a fine paper mosaic which they christened ‘Under the Sea’ as it featured dolphins and a sea monster. The next open weekend at The Temple will be on 26-27 January.
